Cetineite from Le Cetine mine, Siena, Italy

This is one of the unique minerals found at the Le Cetine mine, close to Siena, Italy. This last is one of the most known italian antimony deposit in highly silicified evaporites. Cetineite derives from roasting of the rocks containing antimony. This is the type locality for cetineite whose formula is K1.8Na1.6(Sb2O3)0.9(Sb2S3)0.9(OH)0.5·2.4(H2O).

CETINEITE

LE CETINE MINE, SIENA, ITALY - Clusters of this hyper rare mineral derived from antimonium show up on this rock. The specimen has a great abundance of tiny acicular crystals of cetineite with the typical deep orange/red. Most of the cetineite is located inside several exposed cavities. Overall size is 2.5x2x1.5 cm.
