Sulfur

The most known mineral from Italy is for sure sulfur. Mined mainly in Sicily for centuries, it is now taken out from the galleries for rock collection. Only a reduced number of top quality specimen have been made available and these are some of the latest rocks digged out !

PERTICARA MINE, PESARO - Scarce specimen! this mine is now closed, no specimens available if not coming from old collections. These sulfur mine is very well known by the italian rockhounds ! nicely terminated 1-1.5 cm sulfur crystals. 12x8x5 cm.

Cozzodisi mine, Agrigento, Sicily - Nice, even if small in size, this rock shows 4 terminated crystals, the biggest is around 1.2 cm, with a good looking yellow color. 5x4x4 cm.

PERTICARA mine, PESARO - Inexpensive specimen of sulfur from this famous old location, one of the few not in Sicily that gave always nice specimens. This rock shows several 0.2-0.5 cm sulfur crystals on both sides. There is a nice coating of natural bitumen. 5x4x4.5 cm.

COZZODISI MINE, AGRIGENTO, SICILY -Cluster of terminated sulfur crystals on aragonite matyrix with some natural bitumen. Therea are at least 5 crystals one over the other, real nice terminations and their size is in the range of 0.9-1.5 cm. The whole cluster is 2x1.7 cm. Very good esthetics and display !

SULFUR
COZZODISI MINE, AGRIGENTO, SICILY - This rock hosts 2 large terminated sulfur crystals of 2 and 1.7 cm. Both show a typical yellow color and are nicely located at the top of an aragonite matrix. There is also a smaller sulfur of 1 cm is on the lower part of the rock. Good display for this 8x5x4.5 cm specimen.
